salsa negra
traspasada taqueria - Chicago, IL
the best salsa i have had in a taqueria. smokey black chilis, serious hot.
this is my favorite mexican taqueria in chicago. the burritos & tacos are authentic, totally packed with meat & topped simply with cilantro & onions. they serve liquor, breakfast, menudo on the weekends & are very reasonable.

Would you eat here again?

wow - looks great and I loves me some char. Some of the best Mexican food I have been lucky enough to have has been in Chicago. Long time ago in the back of a grocery - best burrito - I have a feeling it was because growing up I had T-Bell mostly and that one was REAL. And Maxwell Street - got to go there once. The food was soooo good. All I could think of was "how do I get them to come to my city?"
we do have some great mexican food, it's true. and you are right that it can often be found in the back of grocery stores. maxwell street has been re-located & unfortunately has not been the same. that's where you can get the best greasy pork chop sandwich with onions you can smell cooking from blocks away
