Classic Bánh Mì Vietnamese Sandwich
Nicky's Vietnamese Sandwiches - Brooklyn, NY
Man oh man am I a sucker for a good bánh mì. There's nothing like the combination of pâté, vietnamese ham, ground pork, cilantro, jalapeños, cucumber, mayonnaise, and pickled carrots on a crusty, warm baguette. But good bánh mì is less common than it should be. Lucky for me, Nicky's does it right. With locations in Brooklyn and the Lower East Side, Nicky's pumps out sandwiches that are made to order with really good ingredients.
The quality shows-- the pickles are crunchy and not too sweet; the meat is fresh; the veggies are crunchy and bright green as they should be.
Nicky's also serves excellent rice and noodle plates piled high with grilled chicken or pork. Recently they've introduced phơ, the traditional beef noodle soup. Though it lacks some of the delicious bits that phơ is known for like tendon, tripe, and raw flank steak, the broth is still perfectly spiced and makes for a hearty meal.
At the Brooklyn location, service is always amicable and fast, and I always get the sense that my business is appreciated. And I'm thankful every day that it's just a short walk from my apartment.
